Transforming the Data Culture
in Education
Transforming the data culture in education with a students first focus - making educational data accessible, actionable, and equitable for all.
From a Vision to a Statewide Platform
In 2012, the Santa Clara County Office of Education set out to create a data warehouse that could aggregate educational data from disparate systems and combine the data into a one-stop-shop ("DataZone") that would provide educators with the critical data needed to improve student outcomes.
DataZone was created to help schools and districts turn data into meaningful insights that support equitable outcomes for every student. As the work evolved, it became clear that improving outcomes for the most at-risk students requires collaboration that extends beyond schools alone.
In 2015, DataZone began building an integrated data system that brought together educational and case data for Foster Youth in Santa Clara County—creating a more complete picture of student needs and enabling stronger cross-agency support.
Today, DataZone’s student data warehouse supports 60+ districts across four counties and serves as the backbone for sharing educational data across interagency systems. By connecting schools, districts, and community partners, DataZone helps ensure that the students who need support the most receive coordinated and timely services.
With DataZone Analytics, educators can quickly identify student needs, monitor outcomes, and measure system effectiveness. At the same time, community partnerships are strengthened through shared data made available through the Data Extract program and collaborative tools such as FosterVision and Service Link—helping partners work together to improve outcomes for Santa Clara County’s most vulnerable students.
The Right Data. The Right People.
The Right Time.
We believe that when the right data reaches the right people at the right time, it creates powerful opportunities for student growth.
Design Around Students
Every tool, dashboard, and insight is built with one question in mind: does this help a student succeed?
Built for Every Educator
We build with educators, not just for them — ensuring teachers, counselors, and administrators all have the data they need, when they need it.
Close the Gap, Early
Surface disparities before they widen — so supports reach the students who need them most, not after it's too late.
From Data Silos to
Student Success
Traditional education data systems silo critical information across disconnected platforms, limiting educators’ ability to access timely, reliable insights. Datazone eliminates this fragmentation by unifying data into a single, county-managed platform.
